Jill, I'm so glad that this article helped you. I can appreciate how torn you must feel between knowing that Koko is buried in his special yard, but yet, having had to leave him behind when you moved. Thankfully, regardless of what we've chosen to do with our pets' remains, they always live on in our hearts.

I entered to win your book on Goodreads, and followed a link from there to find this article. Oddly, I just today drove by my former home where my beloved dog is buried. While it comforts me to know that Koko is buried in "his" yard that he loved so much, it also haunts me that I had to leave him behind when we moved. I so wish I had opted for cremation. My husband and I have discussed this, and in the future we plan to have our little companions cremated, combine a bit of all their ashes in a single container, and spread the remainder in one of their favorite places (we have a lot of pets). Thanks so much for the thoughtful essay....it was quite helpful to me.

Susan, it means so much that Buckley's Story is helping you cope with losing Hattie. I think Buckley would really like knowing that her story is helping others. And I hope having Hattie's ashes next to you on the bedside table will bring you comfort in the days and weeks to come.

Bernadette, I'm glad this was helpful to you, too. Clearly, Buckley's lessons live on. Interestingly enough, an animal communicator told me that Buckley's job now is to help other animals transition. This doesn't surprise me at all - my little healer kitty is still healing.

Ingrid, this was wonderful, and another example of what a thorough teacher Buckley was. Thanks again for bringing up the subject in your own experience; I find that was most helpful to me and continues to be for others who are losing or who have lost a pet.

Thank you, Ingrid, for addressing the topic of losing a beloved animal companion. I read Buckley's Story a few weeks before my feline soul mate, Hattie passed away. The timing couldn't have been better. Your wonderful book is helping me deal with the different stages of grief. Your words are gentle and powerful at the same time and are fresh in my mind as I go through this heart wrenching time.

I too think it's very important to have a plan in mind for the time when your pet passes. Hattie is resting peacefully in an urn on my bedside table.

Congratulations on all your successes with Buckley's Story, the promotions by vets and many others and thank you for sharing your wisdom and experience with all. It's a real treasure!

Warm hugs and purrs,
Susan
