Thanksgiving cats turkey cute

Thursday is Thanksgiving here in the United States. As we’re looking forward to spending time with family and friends and dreaming of turkey dinners, I think it’s important not to lose sight of the true meaning of the holiday: a time to count one’s blessings. Three years ago, I started my tradition of making a “Thanksgiving ABC’s” list. Some of the items on the list repeat year after year, others are new.

Here is this year’s list of what I’m thankful for:

A: Allegra

B: Books

C: Cats

D: Dessert

E: Eating out – one of the great pleasures of life

F: Facebook

G: Giving thanks – not just on Thanksgiving, but every day

H: Health – the fact that mine, and the health of my girls, is excellent.

I: Inspiration from my cats

J: Joy in life’s small moments

K: Kittens

L: Laughter

M: Music

N: Nutella

O: Old friends

P: Purrs of Wisdom

Q: Quiet time – it’s essential for my personal well-being.

R: Ruby

S: Sunny days

T: Tea. Current favorite: Celestial Seasonings’ Sugar Plum Spice

U: Unscheduled time on my calendar

V: Vanilla custard – the ultimate comfort food

W: Walking – my favorite form of exercise, and I get some of my best ideas on my daily walks.

X: No matter how hard I try, I can’t come up with anything that starts with X.

Y: You – my readers! You’re what motivates me to blog every day.

Z: Zen. It’s a state of mind I strive for every day.

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

  1. Hi Ingrid,

Nice big list and a lot of good things to be thankful for.

Mine would come out much the same.

Life is more meaningful when we appreciate the things we are thankful for. It’s a good cure for depression and bitterness. We all need to be reminded to focus on gratitude since it has a knack for getting lost in the shuffle.

    For “X”…

X-ray since it helps us find out what’s going on inside kitty
Xylophone since it makes Cool Jazz sound extra mellow
Xerox for printing out pictures of kitty to hang on the wall
    “X” to mark the spot

Feel free to add one to the “X” item slot on your list 🙂

    Thanx Ingrid!

  2. I think your list is lovely. I also am thankful for many of the same things. Of course the letter x seemed to beg for my input, so…. I am thankful for a matched set of X-chromosomes. Although I agree that X-mas and xylophones are awesome too.

  3. xmas?
    xylophones?
had to look up the rest but here we have
xylocaine (don’t think I ever had it, but always good to be grateful for painkillers)
    and
    Crosswordsolver.org
    🙂
    just trying to be helpful.
happy thanksgiving to you & your kids.

    • Thank you for the “x” suggestions! I had actually checked the Crosswordslover.org site, but nothing quite resonated. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
