To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die. ― Thomas Campbell

Today is Memorial Day in the United States, a day when we honor the memory of the men and women who have died in military service. It’s also a day for celebrating the arrival of summer with family and friends, but because of the reason for the holiday, it has always felt a bit odd to me to say “Happy Memorial Day,” so instead, I’m wishing you a day filled with love and beautiful memories.

I believe that one of the greatest sacrifices our military personnel make when they deploy is having to leave their beloved pets behind. Thankfully, there are organizations like PACT for Animals, who assist members of the military in finding temporary foster care for their pets during deployments. The video below shows the joyful reunion between two cats and their soldier mom.

As you partake in all the pleasures of this holiday today, please take a moment to remember those who gave all, recognize the sacrifices of our military personnel and thank them for their service.

  1. I am with you. I cringe inside every time someone says happy memorial day. There’s nothing happy about it, but I know they mean well

  2. Nice video. Pact for Animals does a wonderful job! Our military troops need to have a organization like Pact. They put thier lives on the line for us. The lest we as a country can do is, support Pact.

  3. Remember our fallen human comrades but least we forget to also remember those animal comrades who serve alongside them in terrible and dangerous conditions.
