mothers-day-cats

Even though my mother passed away 23 years ago, Mother’s Day remains bittersweet for me. I still feel a pang each year when Mother’s Day cards start appearing in stores. I tend to avoid going to restaurants on Mother’s Day – seeing others take their moms out to lunch or dinner is hard when I would give anything to have one more chance to take my mom out for a meal.

I owe so many things to my mom, but the two most important ones are my love of cats, and my love of books. Okay, and probably also my love of food – my mom was a wonderful cook. Sadly, she only passed the love of food on to me, not her love of cooking. I’m trying, though, Mom, I’m really trying!

Even though we didn’t have cats when I was growing up, my mom was a cat lover. Of all my cats, she only met Feebee, my first cat. The photo below shows her with him. I have a lot of photos of my mom, and I’m not sure she’d be all that happy with me sharing this particular one, but of all the photos I have, this slightly blurry one, caught in a moment when she thought no one was paying attention, is one of my favorites.

Mom and Feebee

Whether you’re the mom of human or feline children, enjoy your special day. And if your mom is no longer with you, I hope today is filled with wonderful memories of your time together.

  1. Happy Cat Mother’s Day, Ingrid. I know exactly how you feel. I lost my mom almost 16 years ago. She was only 69. She had an aortal aneurism, and passed in her sleep, a week before Christmas. November and December are NOT good months for me. Lost my husband over the Thanksgiving weekend in 1994, after 22 1/2 years of marriage. I still miss my mom and husband terribly. My mom was my best friend. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about her. Hope your Mother’s Day was a good one.

  2. This is bittersweet day for me too. I am so blessed to have my kids, I love celebrating this day with them but, even 14 years later it feels wrong that my mom is no longer here. Your mom, by the way, from what I can see in this picture looked so much like my mom.

  3. Happy Mothers Day Ingrid!! I know exactly what you are feeling !! I also lost my Mom 18 years ago, she was only 62. What a wonderful tribute to your sweet Mom!! I love the photo! Yes the surprise photos are truly the best!! Enjoy your furry Mom Day!!

  7. Ingrid,

You are still a mom! Even if, your girls have four legs & fur. So….. Happy Mothers Day, to you!❤

To all the other Cat mom’s, out there, Happy Mothers Day!❤

  8. Happy cat mom’s day! I bet it is hard seeing all of the happy families out on mother’s day. I dread the day my mom is gone. She is the only one who holds the family together. I fear all of my sisters will drift apart (even worse then we are now) once she’s gone.

  9. I always love your Mother’s Day posts, Ingrid, and I love this picture of your mom and Feebee; it’s heartwarming. Have a beautiful day with your girls.

  10. Happy Cat Mom Mother’s day. These holidays can be so difficult, I’m sure she’s happy you are at least trying to cook. Lovely photo. I hope you can focus on the good memories and have a peaceful day with the kitties.
