cat stuffed toy snuggling cute

With all of my other lost cats, the pain of missing them started to soften after about a year. So far, that hasn’t happened with Ruby. Memories are a funny thing: sometimes, they bring smiles and a warm, fuzzy feeling. Other times, they’re like a punch to the gut. However, today’s memory is definitely of the kind that brought a smile.

It goes back to October 2011, six months after Ruby joined our family. Ruby was a skilled bug hunter, but that time, the bug she encountered caused quite a few problems for her.

9 Comments on Remembering Ruby: That Time When Ruby Ate a Stink Bug

  1. Ruby the Gem of all cats will live on an on. And there are just some creatures and people who never really die. Ruby may have eaten that ugly stink bug, but when that bug made it to Ruby’s tummy it turned into an awesome aroma. Because Ruby was so sweet nothing could make her smell bad. Ruby I love and miss you, wherever you are.

  2. I lost my cat Misty back in 2018 and there are still times that where it hurts so bad. However there is a song that makes me cry every time I hear it. It’s called “Ashes” by Celine Dion. The first line is “What’s left to say these prayers aren’t working anymore, every word shot down in vein.” Yup I can’t listen to that song without crying because towards the end of her life my prayers to God weren’t working. He wanted her and there was nothing I could do about it. I’m praying things get easier for you as time goes on. I know how you feel. I don’t think I will ever get over Misty’s passing.

  3. Thank you!
You just cleared something up for me (what my cat was doing).
I had to brace myself to click on the story – afraid, since I was pretty sure that’s what my cat ate the other day – but then I saw “happy memory” part re: the story.
Anyway this explains the weird thing mine was doing and now I know he is **ok**.
    Phew.

  4. We always had the odd Stink Bug coming into the house when we lived upstairs. Ugh. We each learned the hard way. We would see something moving and run over and then make kitty faces at it and Dad would grab it with a paper towel and out the window. Yeah, even Dad did not like the smell. Wonder if he tasted one? Great story about Ruby. A rich tapestry of a kittys life that will be with you always

  5. Ruby was trying to be playful. And needed a little snack too! Got the snack and a little extra something. Good thing Mom was there! Cute story.

  6. Oh poor Ruby! I never thought about the effects a stink bug would have on a kitty. Good thing you knew to get some water in her and some medicine for her tummy issues.
