When it comes to ice cream, I don’t think there’s anything better than a pint of Ben & Jerry’s in your favorite flavor to satisfy your craving. I only like ice cream in the summer, and since it was super hot here last weekend, it was time for the first pint of the season. And I’d forgotten just how much Allegra loves Ben & Jerry’s, but not for the reason you might think. But why don’t I Iet her tell you yourself.
Hi everyone, it’s Allegra! The other day, I was fast asleep in a sun puddle, when all of a sudden, I heard a noise I hadn’t heard for several months now. It was coming from the kitchen. I immediately ran to investigate, and oh, what I saw made me so happy! Mom was opening one of those magical blue and green containers she sometimes gets when the weather is warm.
The container has a crinkly plastic ring around the top, and hearing the noise of it tearing just drives me absolutely bonkers. I always come running whenever I hear the tell tale crinkle sound of something being opened, but the one around that particular container is the most purrfect and bestest one ever!
Mom always lets me play with it for a few minutes. She dangles it and drags it along the floor and I go nuts!
Sometimes, I grab it and run away with it, but Mom always follows me. She never lets me out of her sight when I play with it.
Sadly, those play session always end very quickly, because Mom takes the thing away from me as soon as I start chewing on it. Doesn’t she know that that’s the most fun part of all in this game?
I know, I know. She doesn’t want me to swallow pieces of plastic and she takes it away from me to keep me safe, but still, she’s ruining my fun! But, she lets me lick a tiny little bit of the ice cream after she takes the plastic ring away from me. It’s quite tasty, but it’s not nearly as much fun as chewing on the plastic.
I wish Mom would open one of those blue and green containers every day, because that seal is just, well, the cat’s meow! Oh, wait, Mom wants to write some more, so excuse me while I go take a nap so I’ll be ready for the next time she opens one of the magic pints.
This is Ingrid again. I wish I could open one of those magic pints every day, too! And by the way, what is up with the “3 servings per container?” Doesn’t everyone know that a pint is one serving, and that the proper way to eat it is to take a paper towel, fold it in half, wrap it around the container, and start to enjoy?
Some of my favorite flavors are Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Chunky Monkey, Cherry Garcia, and Pistachio Pistachio. Are you a Ben & Jerry’s fan? What’s your favorite?
Allegra, you are so cute. My girls hear me opening something, food , abd come running because they want some too, you just want the plastic ring. I have never eaten much Ben and Jerry’s, too much sugare abd fat for me, plus dairy upsets my stomach. Enjoy and eat a pint fir me.
I agree with you Ingrid…the only way to eat ice cream is with a dish cloth wrapped around the container and just dig in! My favorite ice cream flavors are chocolate chip and tres leches.
In San Francisco we eat ice cream all year. At my ‘corner store’ I learned our ice cream consumption only goes down about 10% in cold weather. Lucy and I like Dulce de Leche. I fill my bowl and carry it to the living room where I can sit comfortably with a lap. Lucy comes to join me when I call her to let her know I have … we have ice cream. She jumps onto my lap and licks from my bowl. She doesn’t want a lot, so there’s plenty left for me.
There’s no use telling me ice cream isn’t good for cats. Hey, there are no onions in it! And Lucy says a cat needs a little ice cream.
Alegra you look a lot like my Matilda – you both have dark faces and orange chins. Matilda likes to talk, do you? Hubby and I make a pint of Ben and Jerry’s go 2 servings – we cut the carton in half across the middle. I let Paul have the bigger half.
Allegra is not much of a talker, which is somewhat unusual for a tortie. As for the Ben & Jerry’s, you are being very generous letting your husband have the bigger half 🙂
Oh, Ingrid you naughty lady! But you’re making me lick my lips just hearing you mention the flavors. Ice cream is the cat’s meow, even for humans, however, us humans prefer the creamy part, not the plastic wrap. But Allegra, I was so glad to hear from you, and your politeness was just touching. I’m glad, Allegra, you managed to have 2 cakes and eat them both; meaning creamy licks and plastic play time.
peanut budder cup iz mum fav flavor, and yes she eatz it wif a cloth napkin folded unner da bottom. 1 pint = 1 serving
What is up with the “serving size” anyway ?
Fritos Scoops serving is “about 10 chips.” Gimme a break !
My husband and I took vacation in Burlington VT BECAUSE we wanted to visit Ben & Jerry’s. Sadly, MY favorite flavor is only found in the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Graveyard now–Cool Britannia: Vanilla ice cream with strawberries and fudge covered shortbread. 1995-1998 (https://www.benjerry.com/flavors/flavor-graveyard/cool-britannia).
God I miss the 90’s.
That flavor never should have been retired!
My kitties also loved the crinkly plastic seals, especially from the Listerine bottle which would be chased all over the bathroom floor. Thanks for the sweet memories! My favorite Ben and Jerry’s is Cherry Garcia! So expensive now, but so yummy!
Haha so cute! For me, it has to be Phish Food.
Guess what, Allegra? I live only a half hour away from the Ben & Jerry’s factory! I bet I could find you tons of those plastic rings! (Their new Dirt Cake is delish!)
I love ice cream during the summer also. When I have a taste for ice cream or on a really hot day, I’ll venture out to the town ice cream joint that’s been around forever called Magic Fountain and get a strawberry sunday with whipped cream. The best!
I love Ben and Jerry’s ice cream too! My favorites are Cherry Garcia and Phish Food. I agree, 3 servings per container is just ridiculous!
I wish my mama let me play with the plastic wrapper. She takes all plastic things away from me because she says I have something called pica. Sometimes when she unloads groceries, I grab one of the plastic bags and run off with it before she notices. I get in trouble when she finds me. Mamas just don’t know how to have fun. …..Miss Kiki…….
We agree Allegra, attacking wrappers and the crinkly seals on the containers. They always get taken away too fast but better safe than sorry. Our mom loves cookie dough, any coffee or peanut butter flavors and a few of the wacky mixed up ones. She agrees that a pint is a serving, maybe they just put the wrong information on the container because mom will dig right in too! You and your mom stay cool and enjoy your crinkly tops this summer.
