Whiskers Abroad: Ashi and Audrey’s Adventures in Japan is one of the more unusual books I’ve reviewed. This travel and adventure fiction novel follows Audrey and her cat Ashi on a whirlwind trip through Japan.
Alternately told in Audrey’s and Ashi’s voices, the novel takes us from Japan’s cities to its farms and beaches. Every page is beautifully illustrated with four color photos and drawings.
I don’t know much about Japan or its culture and enjoyed learning more about the country in such a light-hearted way. And of course, I fell in love with Ashi practically from the first page. In addition to the fictional account of Audrey and Ashi’s travels, the author offers a wealth of actual information about how to get around in Japan, including relevant website links.
Cat lovers and lovers of Japan will thoroughly enjoy this delightful book. I can’t wait to see where Audrey and Ashi will travel to next.

Look up Japan’s cat island…..it has become a tourist attraction.
Aoshima Island is where cats outnumber people, approximately 6 times more. There are approx 100 cats live on this small island while only 15 human does. Recently, the island has got loads of attentions worldwide since the video of Aoshima and the resident cats was posted on YouTube and went viral.
