Hi everyone, it’s Allegra! Today, I want to tell you about what a typical day looks like for me.
I usually get up around 3am. That’s about an hour before Mom gets up. Yes, she does get up that early. Aren’t I a lucky kitty to have a mom who gets up so early, because you know that means breakfast is served early too! Anyway, I get up early and patrol the house to make sure everything is in order for mom when she gets up. Sometimes I get bored after making the rounds, but rather than waking Mom up, I just pull some toys out of my toy basked and kick them around a bit.
When Mom gets up, I escort her to the bathroom, then lead the way into the kitchen. I wouldn’t want her to get lost on her way there! I get really impatient while she prepares my breakfast. Sometimes I get so excited, I nip at her toes. That used to be kind of fun, but she’s caught on and now she pulls on socks before getting my breakfast ready. Spoilsport!
Anyway, getting my breakfast ready always seems like it takes forever, because Mom mixes a bunch of stuff in that’s suppposed to be good for me. After circling her legs a few times and getting some nips in, I go over to my place mat on the floor and wait for her there. I’m always so happy when she puts my dish down!
After breakfast, I wait for Mom to get her coffee. Once she sits down in her comfy chair in the living room, I sometimes jump up on her lap. Other times, I go straight into Mom’s office, because I know that where she’ll go after she has her coffee and meditates. While Mom goes online and answers emails for an hour or so, I take my first nap of the day on the floor in the office. There’s a really nice bed in there, too, but I go through phases with that, and right now I’m in a nap-on-the-floor phase.
When Mom gets up, I know it’s time for my “good stuff,” as she calls it. That means I get my morning medications, followed by a Churu treat. Yummy! After that, I move to our bedroom, where Mom will have finished making the bed and putting down my favorite blanket. Now it’s time for another nice long nap on my blanket.

Halfway through the morning I usually wake up and go check on Mom and remind her to take a break. During that break, she brushes me, and I get a little treat afterwards. Then I choose one of several spots to watch what’s going on outside.
When it’s time for Mom’s lunch, I always try to help her prepare it, but she usually eats stuff I don’t really like. Since that almost always ends up being a little disappointing, I take another nap. After her lunch, Mom goes back to the office to work on the computer some more.
In the early afternoon, I get my “dinner.” It’s not really dinner time, but since I get breakfast so early, I’m pretty hungry by then. But first, it’s time to play! After some playtime, we go through the same routine as we do when Mom gets my breakfast ready.

After my afternoon meal comes my favorite part of the day, and I know it’s Mom’s favorite part, too. Mom goes to sit on the loveseat in our living room, and I jump up on her lap, stretch out on her legs, and take a long after dinner nap while Mom reads. After about 45 minutes, she usually gently moves me off her legs, and I curl up and go back to sleep for the rest of the afternoon.

Late afternoon, it’s time for my evening medications, also followed by a Churu treat. Then it’s back to napping. Sometimes I’ll watch TV with Mom after she’s had her dinner (or rather, I sleep while she watches TV.) And then it’s time for bed! Some evenings, I help Mom get ready for bed by supervising her in the bathroom. Other times, Mom has to remind me that it’s time for bed, because I’ll be fast asleep in the living room. But I always, always sleep with Mom.
So that’s my typical day. I know there’s a lot of napping and sleeping, but hey, I’m 15 years old, and I need my beauty sleep!
Kitties, what does a typical day look like for you?

Amelie (tortie) replies, wow Allegra, you have a very busy schedule! I have an adopted big brother, Bertie and we adopted a youngster, Freya. Freya is a pawful but Bertie is an excellent cat dad, me, well, I just don’t have the patience but she has learned excellent manners from Bertie. Best cat dad ever. Anyway, after mom has coffee and brushes my long fur in the morning, we cats sleep on mom’s bed most of the day absorbing solar energy. Mom put a furry blanket on the bed for us and it is wonderful. I keep busy at night, mom snores and I head bump her to wake her up and keep watch on her shoulder or the other side of the bed off and on most of the night. We live in a rural area and there is the occasional mouse so we cats work nights. Freya is fast and energetic and can get into the smaller spaces. Bertie and I give her tips and back her up. We all snack during the day but have a heartier supper before we go to work. Life is never dull that is for sure.
Teamwork, I love it! And so thoughtful of you to stop Mom from snoring 🙂
Wow you are up early Allegra! You are thru 1/2 of your day by the time I start mine. Mom gets up to give me my meds at 9AM. Then she is up at 10 to get my breakfast. By then the meds kick in and I am starved! I start meowing if she is running late in getting downstairs. Then at noon I get my Gabapentin. We then stay downstairs and she is on the computer for most of the day and I get to sit in her lap for a while before I get antsy and want down. At 6 pm another dose of meds, and then at 8 PM we go up to bed. I always sleep with mom. Not a bad life we have.
Sounds like a really nice life to me!
Lovely “Day in the Nine Lives” post by Allegra!
Thanks, Dave!
Allegra, your day starts early! Having said that, we 3 cats get breakfast at 05:30 as mummy leaves for work at 06:30. Even on non work days, we get breakfast early because it is important for us to have routine. After breakfast, we inspect our surroundings. Daddy is allergic to cats, so we sleep in the master bedroom with ensuite, so we have to check out the rest of the house. Then nap in a spot of sunshine, help mummy in the kitchen and we get a small snack at lunchtime. More playing until dinner time which is always 4pm summer and winter. We don’t wear watches but we know what time it is. I like to chase little balls around, my brother and sister prefer just to cuddle with mummy. We then all snuggle on the sofa before bed time. We like to be brushed, and mummy is surprised at how much fur there is, we are all short haired cats!
Love from Petunia xxx
Ps we think we should be able to sleep in mummy’s bedroom, but we do have each other, so it is ok. Thank you for sharing your day.
What a lovely routine you have!
My mommy wakes up early too, at 4:30. But our dad is the one who feeds us. Mom tends to lay in bed a few minutes before getting up. We get a nice snack before he leaves for work at 5:30. The rest of the day is full of naps with a little play time mixed in. Dinner is served in the afternoon, usually around 2:00, but mom always says it used to be 3 and doesn’t know it seems to get earlier and earlier every day. Kiki starts asking for dinner around 1:00. We always get a fun snack right before bedtime. Daddy goes to bed early every night.

I’m glad I’m not the only one with a cat who keeps pushing dinner closer and closer to lunch!
