Review: Cats of the World

Kitten Lady Hannah Shaw and cat photographer Andrew Martilla are a match made in heaven. This husband and wive team have made making cat’s lives better their mission, whether it’s rescuing and raising neonatal kittens and educating the public on kitten care or capturing cats’ unique nature in stunning photographs. In Cats of the World, Hannah and Andrew are taking us along on their travels to 30 countries around the world.

In each country, they explore feline culture and welfare, and share the cats and the people who care for them with gorgeous photos and beautiful words.

From Malaysia to the Netherlands, from Puerto Rico to France, from Turkey to South Africa, this book was clearly a labor of love. Hannah’s and Andrew’s passion for cats and for their work shines through on every page.

And oh, the cats. In London, we meet Sigrid, the cycling cat, who has traveled more than 3,000 kilometers in the comfort of  a bike basket. In Amsterdam, we meet Mango, an orange and white cat who keeps a restaurant mouse-free. In Paris, we meet Princess Alice, a small black cat with a larger than life personality.

We also learn about the challenges cat rescuers face in many countries all around the world, and we meet the dedicated individuals who are working hard to improve their lives.

Cats of the World is one of the most gorgeous cat books I’ve ever seen. This beautiful book is a visual feast, and one I will come back to over and over again.
