Hi everyone, it’s Allegra! Today I want to tell you about how I wake up Mom every morning.

Mom says I’m the most patient of all the cats she’s ever had. Ruby was the opposite: she would bounce all over the bed, back and forth, and if that didn’t get Mom up, she’d play with her hair. Mom says Feebee would wake her by pawing at a decorative glass plate on the wall that he could reach from the top of a chair, and it made a lovely clanging noise.

I usually wait for Mom to be ready to get up. I sleep at the foot of the bed, and I usually get up about an hour before Mom does, and patrol the house to make sure that everything is in order. Then I go back to bed. About half an hour before Mom gets up, I walk up to her head and sit quietly and stare at her until she notices me. Then I give her a quick kiss on the mouth before retreating back to my regular spot at the foot of the bed.

Most mornings I wait until she’s ready to get up, but some mornings, I might give her a second kiss, and if that doesn’t get her up, I start pawing at her face. Unfortunately, that usually has the opposite effect of what I’m intending: it makes Mom turn away from me so she can get a little more sleep.

I know Mom loves that first kiss of the morning. I’ve heard her tell friends that her heart melts when I do that. I love my Mom and I love kissing her!

Kitties, how do you wake up your humans?

  1. How sweet Allegro is special Love the story, Tommorow I am adopting a 12 yr old blue russian baby ,hoping it works out for us because I have a 24 yr old green check parrot ,who does love cats and has been with cats before,

  2. I have a baker’s dozen here (counting the feral one that lives in the farm-shoppe).

Of the dozen that live in the house, about half of them are feral who love me, but tend to do their own thing. Right now, I have two that enjoy being in my bedroom. Mr Tabby the Spoilt Feral Housecat (spotted tabby) has slept on my bed with me on cold nights before, but this time round he has not, so far. Miss Patches (black/white bi-colour), a former feral mum of three of my other cats has been sleeping in the bedroom, sometimes on the bed, but usually on the clothes hamper. She just sleeps, does not wake me. The youngest is Miss Stripes (tortoiseshell and white with tabby stripes and has one dark/light striped harm with a white hand and the other black/grey striped arm with white hand) has been sleeping in bed with me since it has gotten cold at night. She was sleeping with her head right up by my ear. Sometimes she sleeps buried under the blanket. Miss Stripes is really easy going. There are food bowls round the house (obviously) and she knows where they are, including the BIG one in the living room, but she prefers to eat from the small one in the bedroom. She sleeps till *I* get up. And even then, there are times when I start moving round getting ready to get up and she is like ‘NO! Sleep some more with me!’ She gets on top of me so it is even more difficult for me to get up. She would probably want me to sleep all day! Usually, the first thing she does when I get up is go to the food bowl (and there is a bowl of water nearby) and eat and usually drink. But, it is usually a ‘do you HAVE to get up LALREADY?????’

  3. You are the sweetest, Allegra. I like to wash my meowmy’s face (even her mouth) to wake her up. But she always puts the covers over her face and mumbles something about me licking my butt prior to giving her a face wash. Pono used to have a unique way of waking mom and dad up. Mom has a lot of perfume bottles on the dresser in the bedroom and Pono would knock one over causing a domino effect with lots of crashing sounds of glass. That got everyone out of bed quick, but it didn’t get Pono an early breakfast. He got in trouble.

    • That is the sweetest and most adorable Good Morning. You are a your Mother’s baby. I hope both of you are having a wonderful holiday season.

  4. Hi Allegra, my name is Rocky and I like to wake my mom up by licking her hand! I’m not sure why, but after I start licking her, mom will put her hand under the blanket where I can’t get to it! Mom then pretends she is still asleep, but I know she is only pretending, so then I’ll walk all over her. That usually gets her out of bed and into the kitchen to get my breakfast. I love my mom and I know she loves me very much!
