For the past three years, I’ve been deeply immersed in diamond painting. It’s become my go to to express my creativity in something other than writing. It’s incredibly relaxing and soothes my sometimes runaway, anxious mind. And when you finish a project, you end up with a beautiful piece of art.
What is diamond painting?
It’s kind of like a combination of paint-by-number and cross-stitch. You apply hundreds of tiny sparkling resin “diamonds” to an adhesive, color-coded canvas. The result is a sparkly, shimmering work of art. “It requires minimal effort and can be extremely addictive as this creative outlet is great for relaxation, stress relief, and overall mental health,” says Jennifer Chu, director of sales and e-commerce for Diamond Art Club.
I can definitely testify to this being addictive, but as far as addictions go, I think this is probably a good one to have!
My projects
After an initial smaller canvas to test the waters, my other projects have all been fairly large canvases.

I finished this painting, titled Together at Christmas, just in time for the holidays two years ago. Cardinals are my favorite birds, and I have this winter scene hanging in my living room from November through February.

My next project, titled Luna, is my favorite so far. It hangs in my hallway.

I just completed A Cat Named Poppy, which will be a gift for a friend.

Cat Suncatcher Kit
A dear friend gave me the sun catcher kit for Christmas, and I had been looking forward to getting started on it. It was fun to work on a smaller project that I could easily finish in one weekend. It turned out beautifully! For comparison, my other projects took between five and eight months each.

I ended up displaying my finished project on a shelf rather than hanging it in a window. It looked really pretty in a window, but in order for the “diamonds” to really sparkle, the light needs to hit them from the front or side, so I like it better on this shelf. The photo still doesn’t do the sparkle effect justice.
If you’ve been thinking about giving diamond painting a try, this is a great kit for beginners. The kit includes everything you need to complete the project. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with instructions, but this short video from Diamond Art Club gives you a good introduction.

The Diamond Painting Suncatcher Kit is available from Amazon.
All my other diamond paintings are from Diamond Art Club. I’ve found that they have the best quality kits as well as outstanding customer service. I’m eyeing this painting for my next project:

With 110,000 diamonds, it would be my most ambitious project yet, but I think it would be so much fun to work on with all these different colors. Stay tuned!

They are all just gorgeous!
Thanks, Debi!
Those are beautiful. Never seen a suncatcher one before. I have no patience for that. I tried a really small one once.
I hadn’t seen a sun catcher before, either. I have another post about a diamond art project coming soon that’s even smaller than the suncatcher, so maybe you’ll feel like trying again!
They have a version that included a stand for display. Ingrid, can you provide a commissioned link for this one?

Thx so much for the idea! I definitely want to try this soon !!!

Here you go, Carol, and thanks for asking for the commissioned link! https://amzn.to/4h9xg3d
YW & Thx!!! I’m going to go order it now !! 🙂
That sun catcher is stunning! I’ll have to look into getting into another hobby.
I started doing diamond art about 4 years ago and loved it. I haven’t been back to it but I am definitely getting the suncatcher! Thanks so much for sharing.
I hope you have fun with the kit, Brenda!
Beautiful
I love the sun catcher, but I would have displayed it on a shelf too. I would be afraid the heat (at least where I live) from the sun would dry out the sticky part that holds the crystals in place. Your other projects are beautiful too. I did one picture once and it was too much of a struggle keeping my curious cats off the table when I was working on it.
Allegra is curious, but gets bored with watching me pretty quickly.
That video is really needed to know how to do this.
Very clear tips.
Those are beautiful. You are so good! I think you should do one of both of your girls. I took art for over 15 years, then I gave it up when they said I had to draw things other than horses.
Thanks, Sandy! I’ve been thinking about doing a custom one of the girls, but haven’t found a company that does high quality custom kits.
These are lovely! What a fun and creative hobby.
