I love reading romance novels, and I love them even more if there are cats in the book. I can’t remember how I heard about The Bookworm and the Cat’s Meow, but I knew that a book that combines cats and books was one I wanted to read.

From the publisher:

Recently divorced and looking for a fresh start, Lance Reed swaps his business in the city for the cozy charm of a bookstore in the heart of Sunshine Bay. What he doesn’t expect is the slew of community commitments that come with it—especially the agreement to display cats from the local pet shelter in his store.

There’s just one problem: Lance hates cats.

Enter Raven Johnson, the spirited, cat-loving woman behind the local pet shelter. Also in her mid-fifties and divorced, Raven has dedicated her life to her daughter and her feline friends, leaving little room for romance or other personal ambitions.

You probably already know where this is going after reading this description, but that’s the beauty of reading romance: there’s always a happy ending.

This charming story set in the beautiful fictional town of Sunshine Bay his a heartwarming escape into a world of fresh starts with immensely likeable characters and adorable rescue cats with big personalities. The majority of romance novels feature young protagonists, so it was a refreshing change to read a book about two fifty-something-year-old characters. The book also has one of the most clever “meet cutes” I’ve recently come across.

When I was younger, I used to feel that I should hide the fact that I love reading romance, but these days, I make no apologies. In a world filled with uncertainty, reading a book that lets me escape to a place where everything always works out is essential to my mental health.

The Bookworm and the Cat’s Meow is part of Jeanine Lauren’s Sunshine Bay series, and I’ll be checking out more of her books for sure.

The Bookworm and the Cat’s Meow is available from Amazon.

  1. Hi Ingrid, after reading your review of the Bookworm and the Cat’s Meow I immediately went to Amazon and purchased it . I started reading it while at my oncologist appointment and my chemotherapy treatment. When my chemo treatment was finished, I hated I had to put this wonderful book up to leave and drive home. I read some more last night, but I’m trying to savor it and not rush through it. I love that it has mature characters. I’m 62 so I really books that feature older characters and not these twenty somethings. Thank you for reviewing the Bookworm and the Cat’s Meow..

  2. I had to order this book. it sounds like one I am going to love. I love romance books, especially the ones with mature characters, and I love books with cats in them. It checks all the boxes for me.
