Fountains have come a long way since the days when they sounded like a waterfall, or had pumps that could be heard all the way across the room. Some of the newer fountains are cordless, super quiet and don’t even have pumps anymore. I was excited to review the Elfin E1+ cordless and pumpless fountain from Cheerble, my first experience with that type of fountain.

Elfin E1+ features
I was first attracted to the fountain’s clean and sleek design, but the design isn’t even the best part. It has a lot of features that will make you want to get rid of your older fountains.

- The pumpless design makes cleaning a breeze – and isn’t cleaning always the worst part of having a traditional fountain? The fountain is simple to take apart, making cleaning fast, thorough and easy.
- Because this fountain doesn’t have a traditional pump, is it much safer for your cat. All electrical components are completely separate from the water source. This also extends the life of the components.
- The built in battery will last 30 days when fully charged, giving you flexibility on where to place the fountain and eliminating worries about tangled cords (or worse, kitties chewing on cords.) You can also leave the fountain plugged into a wall outlet if that’s your preference.
- The fountain’s multi-layer filtration system removes heavy metals, dirt, and other harmful substances to provide fresh, clean water. It is recommended to change the filters and clean the fountain every three to four weeks.

- The fountain has two dispensing modes, Timer Mode and Intelligent Mode. Timer Mode dispenses water for 20 seconds every 15 minutes, Intelligent Mode dispenses water for 20 seconds when a cat is detected near the fountain.
- The fountain is made of food-grade stainless steel and BPA-free materials.
- For added safety, the fountain automatically stops when the water level is low. A 145ml emergency storage capacity keeps your cat hydrated during a power outage.
- All Cheerble cat water fountains are supported by a 12-month commitment to quality. If you encounter any product issues, they will gladly assist you with a replacement or return.

Putting the Elfin 1+ fountain to the test
The fountain comes with an easy to read and follow instruction manual. It took me less than five minutes to unpack and set up. It is quieter than any other fountain I’ve reviewed before. You can barely hear it running. The water spout is low enough that there is no trickle sound. I know some people enjoy the sound of running water, but I’ve never been one of them.
Allegra wasn’t quite sure what to make of it at first. She’s never really taken to fountains, but she seemed intrigued with this one. I love that it’s quiet, and that it can be placed anywhere without a cord. That’s been my main reason for not setting up a fountain for her – I have limited outlets in my kitchen, and there was just never a good place for one before.
The fountain has a water level indicator, which allows you to track your cat’s water consumption, something I consider extremely important, especially for senior cats.
The Cheerble Elfin 1+ fountain is available from Amazon and from Cheerble. Cheerble also offers a corded version of this fountain with fewer features, making it a more budget friendly version.
The water tray of this fountain is stainless steel. I would like to see them release an upgraded version of this fountain that is 100% stainless steel, but I still like it enough as is to give it our seal of approval.

I have tried so many fountains over the years.
I have this one and it is the BEST one that I have ever had.
I wasn’t sure at first because the fountain does not stay on constant, and MaggieMae was afraid of one that I had before that did that, but it had so many good reviews I decided to try.
She went right to it and never had any problem. I found out that it wasn’t the water coming on that scared her it was the sound of the motor, and this has barely makes any sound at all.
also, it is the easiest I’ve ever cleaned since it has no motor or small areas that needs special cleaning. It is well worth the cost.
I do wish the whole thing was stainless steel but the top where she drinks at is stainless so that is good.
Thank you for sharing your experience with this fountain, Marie!
I would like too try them for I have a cat who plays in the water and washes her paws I have 2 bowls one upstairs and the other one is downstairs when I tell her no she goes too the other one.
Quiet is very good. I, too, have resisted switching to a fountain because cats do not like change. We have a filtered water faucet at our kitchen sink (when we lived on boats, we had this, so we added it to our home), so it is easy to give her (and us) fresh filtered water. I change the water in her bowl twice a day, sometimes more. But she is getting older, so I am always on the lookout for options that are best for her. Thanks, as always.
Does this work with well water? I always just used spring water for my dogs. I never knew if these water fountains worked with well water.
I’m not sure. I think it would depend on the minerals in your water. They recommend distilled but Maggie doesn’t like regular filtered water and prefers right out of the tap. I do notice I need to change the filter a bit more because of it.
You could try and see if more frequent filter changes might work with the well water and I would probably try to clean it more often because of the minerals.
Also you could try contacting the manufacturers on their website to see what they think. They seem very responsive.
I like that this fountain is quiet and cordless.
