Hi everyone, it’s Allegra! There’s been some excitement at our house recently, and I want to tell you all about it!

I was just getting ready for my morning nap when all of a sudden, there were lots of loud noises outside. Trucks, beeping horns, people shouting – what was going on in my quiet street? Mom explained that they were going to be milling and paving the street. I don’t know what that means, but I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. What if all that noisy equipment and those people came inside our house?

But I quickly realized that Mom and I were safe, and that nobody was going to come inside, so I went back to my beloved marshmallow bed and took a nice long nap.

When I woke up, it was still noisy outside, so I had to go and investigate. Oh, look, it says “cat” on one of the big pieces of equipment they’re using! Well, then it can’t be all bad.

Mom was grumbling about the noise and the dust and that we couldn’t open our windows until they were done with the work, even though it was a beautiful spring day, but I didn’t mind. I decided to supervise the work for a while, until I got bored and took another nap.

Mom said she was really proud of me for not being scared. She said when I was little, I was scared every time a trash truck went down our street. I guess I have settled down quite a bit over the years.

Kitties, do you get upset when there’s lots of loud noises outside?

  1. My dear Calli kitty has a hip disorder, she is 15. She still walks, eats, uses her litter box, and has a great attitude. She presently gets acupuncture twice a month which helps somewhat. However, we know her condition will get worse to the point where she may not be able to use her hind legs. My question is which is the guiding factor, quality of life or life itself?

  2. Our Anya used to dash away from the window when the garbage truck went by. But our Ozzie is happy to stay there and watch – without any concern. In fact, I think he would like to be DRIVING the truck.

  3. Just wanted to check in and tell you how much Emmett and I love you and Allegra!
    She’s such a dear, sweet little cat. <3 <3 <3
And thank you for all of your wonderful posts and information.

  4. Hi Allegra, Rocky here! I’m never afraid of loud noises outside the house or on the street, even when the men come by every week in the warm weather to cut the grass. The lawn mower comes very close to the windows and is extremely loud. Mom hates the loud noise and is eager for the ordeal to over, but I sit in front of the window and watch!

When the doorbell rings… now that’s something to be afraid of. I run upstairs and hide under the bed!

  5. Kiki and I don’t like our routines messed with either by noises. We have a big electrical substation behind our house and the electric company has done some major upgrades over the past few years and it has been very noisy. we don’t like all the vroom vroom beep beep of the trucks either. Plus all the banging on the metal is really bad. But it’s been quiet back there the last few days and we have a new sound. This one sends me under the bed. Mom calls it storm season.
