I love reading romance novels, and I love them even more if a cat is part of the story. I thoroughly enjoyed Jeanine Lauren’s The Bookworm and the Cat’s Meow, and I was excited to read Whisking Love and Building Dreams.

From the publisher:

Esther Shepherd has built a quiet, predictable life in Sunshine Bay—running her beloved bistro, sharing movie nights with her closest friend, and keeping her heart firmly guarded.

Curtis Woodrow has leaned on Esther more than he ever intended. When his wife (and Esther’s friend) passed away from cancer four years ago, it was Esther who helped him through the darkest days. She never asked for anything in return. But lately, Curtis has been seeing her differently… not just as a friend, but as the woman who just might hold his future.

As Curtis rebuilds his life and Esther tries to protect her own heart, their comfortable friendship begins to shift. With the gentle nudging of a nosy cat named Pearl—and the unexpected arrival of Esther’s estranged brother—buried feelings and secrets begin to surface.

I fell in love with the fictional town of Sunshine Bay in The Bookworm and the Cat’s Meow and loved revisiting the charming setting. Pearl, a beautiful white cat, is not central to the plot of Whisking Love and Building Dreams, but of course, having her be part of the story only made it more fun to read. Maybe we need to invent a new genre for these types of books? Feline-enhanced romance?

At any rate, this book is a pure pleasure read and will let you escape reality for a few hours – and who doesn’t need that right now.
