It’s been a while since I’ve shared a Ruby memory with you. I think of her every day, and almost everything I do in this house has some memory of her attached to it. The other day, I remembered the time when we had a cat tree in our kitchen.
Yes, you read that right: a cat tree in the kitchen. Read on for the story of how that came about. Ruby was ever so helpful in the kitchen, but sometimes, that caused some slight problems. And I swear, now that Allegra is my only kitchen helper, I sometimes think Ruby is egging Allegra on from beyond. Can’t you just hear her? “Allegra, how fun would it be if you pushed that glass of water off the counter? Wee!!!”
For more about my two little kitchen helpers, and why the cat tree ended up in the kitchen, read Cats in the Kitchen.

This is a sweet memory. My girls help in the kitchen too. We actually have a big cat tree in the dining room and beside the table, I added two tall scratching poles with a flat top where each of the girls can sit while we eat. That was the only way to keep them off the table. But Lu still sometimes decides to lay on one end of the table just to be closer if we decide to give her a tiny nibble of meat.
That’s a great set up you have, Janine!
