2025 Cat Book of the Year

Since I broke my own rule with this year’s Cat Product of the Year announcement by picking two products instead of just one, I thought what the heck, let’s break the rule for my choice for the 2025 Cat Book of the Year, too! I fell in love with the Leafwood Falls series by Brooke Skie this fall, and have since read all six books in the series.

Technically,  these books are romance novels, but they prominently feature Hemingway, an opinionated bookstore cat cat who always has his paws in the story, and who is featured on each of the covers, so in my opinion, that makes them cat books.

I used to apologize for  my love of romance novels, because it just seemed that I should be reading more “serious” books. And I do. But when it comes to simply being entertained and escaping reality for a little while, I think there’s nothing better than a romance novel. And if it features a cat? Even better!

The town of Leafwood Falls exudes charm at any time of the year, whether it’s spring, fall, or Christmas. It is populated with immensely likeable human characters, many of them owners of adorable stores along the town’s charming main street.

Like all romance novels, these books follow common tropes, but for me, that’s the appeal of the genre: you know you’re going to get a happy ending.
