It is vital to balance your cat’s natural instincts with his or her safety and well-being. This can be challenging for indoor kitties. While cats with outdoor access enjoy more mental stimulation than indoor cats, you need to weigh this against the risks of letting your cat roam free. A cat enclosure gives your feline family members the best of both worlds.

Cat enclosures provide secure, contained spaces. These range from small portable cages or tents to elaborate, multi-level outdoor structures attached to homes or free-standing. Cat enclosures create a stimulating environment to keep kitties safe from traffic, predators, and other dangers.

In a recent article for animal wellness, I explored the benefits of cat enclosures, how to design, build or purchase one, and how to get your cat used to them.

  1. I love these outdoor spaces fir cats. I wish I could trap the 3 feral cats that I feed and set up something like this. I worry when I don’t see them abd when the food bowl is still full. I think 2 have been fixed, not sure about the 3rd. I tried to trap 2 previously but failed. They are very wild.

  2. This would have been perfect when I had Pono and Pele. they both loved going outside. Of course they only went out in the back yard when we were with them. Lulu and Kiki have no desire to go outside. They like looking at it from the comfort of their window beds.
