Excessive heat warnings used to be the exception, not the norm, but sadly, they’re becoming routine even in parts of the world unaccustomed to extreme temperatures. We know by now that extreme heat and humidity can be as dangerous to cats as it is people, and even indoor cats may need protection from the heat. But how hot is too hot for your cat?
The folks at PetMd.com shared a simple graphic that answers this question.

It sure did heat up quick this year. Even my girls don’t want to lay in sun spots right now. I noticed the strays hanging out under the bushes to keep cool. I keep putting ice cubes in their water bowl.
I have noticed the strays that I feed have not been coming around as often during the day. I guess they have found someplace that is a bit cooler to stay during the heat of the day.
I think cats are definitely smarter than dogs when it comes to staying out of the heat 🙂 It’s probably why heat stroke in cats is relatively uncommon.

My girls aren’t too happy, but I have been keeping the blinds closed lately because letting too much light inside makes the house hotter. I keep the ceiling fans on too, but I also like a stand up fan. I really like the one you’re showing here. I wish I could do something for the feral cats here. I always worry about them in the hot summer and winter when we get a freeze.
I tried to close the blinds yesterday, but Allegra protested. Of course, she got her way. 🙂
The heat is awful, it was 104. At 7pm it was 103. I worry abt the feral cats i feed. I have not seen them but once in the past few months. I found out a raccoon was eating their food. I feed the birds. I put water out for them in the tree. I can not imagine what August is going to be like. We did not even have a spring this year. It is like being in a sauna without the health benefits. Stay cool.
It has been awful. Today is marginally better. I feed the birds, too, and have a birdbath for them, and I put additional water bowls out for the squirrels, chipmunks and rabbits. I have baby sparrows in my birdhouse and was really worried about them, but they’re doing well so far, thank goodness.
