Allegra’s World: The Importance of Exercise

cat_exercise

Hi everyone, it’s Allegra! I’ve been a busy girl! Between helping Mom with the Pettie nominations and keeping my sister in line, I can barely find time for more important things like birdwatching, sunbathing and napping. And as if I didn’t have enough on my paws, I’ve recently added another title to my long list of job descriptions: I’m Mom’s Purrsonal Trainer!

Every day at lunchtime, before Mom goes for her daily walk, she does weird things with these green things that look like giant bones. Continue Reading

Allegra’s World: Crazy for Cat Crazies

 cat_crazies_cat_toy

Hi everyone, it’s Allegra! I want to tell you about my super cool new toys! They’re called Cat Crazies, and they really do drive me crazy – but in a really good way. I like it when Mom tosses one out for me. I go bounding after it, and then I pick it up with my mouth and carry it around.

Mom keeps trying to get me to bring it back to her, but what fun would that be? It’s much more fun to watch her try to get it out after I’ve kicked it under furniture. I try to be very helpful by getting down right next to her when she’s crawling around on the floor.Continue Reading

Allegra’s World: Making the Bed

cats_make_the_bed

Hi everyone, it’s Allegra! Mom said I should tell you what a good helper kitty I am when it comes to helping mom change the sheets.

The bed is pretty much my favorite place in our  whole house. Our bedroom gets a lot of sun puddles during the day, and I like to take naps in them. And I love snuggling with Mom in bed at night, even if I have to share her with Ruby. I like to sleep curled up against one of Mom’s legs, and I love how careful she is when she has to turn over so she doesn’t disturb me.

But the best part about the bed is when Mom changes the sheets, Continue Reading

Allegra’s World: Nursing Mom

Allegra's_World

It has been said that cats have healing powers, and I’m proof that it’s true! I took care of Mom last week when she was sick. Mom said I was a very good nurse, and that what I did was very sweet. I didn’t think what I did was so special. I was worried about Mom, and I wanted to help her. It’s what we cats do.

I knew something was wrong when Mom didn’t get up at her usual time. She’s always on time with our breakfast, so I was getting worried when she was still laying in bed half an hour after she usually feeds us. When she finally got up, she moved very slowly, and her voice sounded funny – kind of scratchy and hoarse, not at all like what she usually sounds like. But at least she was finally up! Whew!Continue Reading

Allegra and Ruby Discuss Sleeping Arrangements

sleeping_arrangements_with_cats

To me, sleeping with my cats is one of the joys of sharing my life with them. Every cat I’ve ever had has slept on the bed with me. In fact, the few nights one of them didn’t, it was usually because something was wrong.

I’m always amazed at how much room two small cats can take up in a queen size bed. Some nights, I feel like a contortionist, trying to get comfortable again without waking Allegra and Ruby. Middle of the night gymnastics are not conducive to getting a good night’s sleep. But what’s a little lost sleep, compared to spending the night with a my two girls snuggled up in bed with me?

Allegra and Ruby have their own thoughts about our sleeping arrangements, and they have been bugging me to share them with you.Continue Reading

Allegra, Ruby and the iPad

cat_with_iPad

I had been considering getting an iPad for quite some time, and a couple of weeks ago, I finally took the plunge. The iPad is my first Apple device, and I like almost everything about it. I use it for various aspects of my business, and it has made my life easier – and isn’t that what technology is ultimately all about? And yes, I admit it: it’s also just plain fun.

What I didn’t expect is that Allegra and Ruby would also enjoy it. But why don’t I let them tell you about it.

Ruby: What is that flat thing that Mom keeps staring at, Allegra?

Allegra: I don’t know, Ruby. Looks likeContinue Reading

A Very Special Visitor for Allegra and Ruby

visit_from_robin

Allegra and Ruby got a surprise visit from our dear friend Robin Olson of Covered in Cat Hair last week. Robin was in town for BlogPaws. She’d been wanting to meet the girls two years ago when BlogPaws was held at Tysons Corner as well, and this year, we finally managed to find the time to make it happen.

Allegra, who loves visitors, took to Robin right away. She greeted her at the door, and led the way upstairs into our living room. Ruby, who tends to be a little more cautious with people she doesn’t know, didn’t take long to warm up to Robin, either. But why don’t I let the girls tell you about Robin’s visit in their own words.

Allegra: I love visitors, and I could tell right away that this lady was a cat person.

Ruby: New person in the house!Continue Reading
