BlogPaws 2013: Cat Ladies, Kittens and Tiaras

BlogPaws_2013

I spent four fun-filled days last week with about 300 of my fellow pet bloggers at BlogPaws 2013. This was my third BlogPaws experience, and just when I think it can’t possibly get any better than the prior year, it does. From attending top-notch presentations by blogging and social media experts to networking with other bloggers, the weekend was a blur of learning, networking, and socializing.

But as was the case last year, the highlight of the conference for me was connecting and reconnecting with my blogging friends, including Robin Olson of Covered in Cat Hair,  Tamar Arslanian of I Have Cat, Angie Bailey of Catladyland, Deb Barnes of The Chronicles of Zee and Zoey, Janea Kelley of Paws and Effect, Debbie Glovatsky of Glogirly, Terri Thorsteinson of Curlz and Swirlz, Stephanie Harwin of Catsparella, Janiss Garza of  Sparkle Cat, Karen Nichols of Mousebreath, Connie of Tails from the Foster Kittens, Jeanne of Random Felines, Rachel Shubin of Sandpiper Cat, Lisa Richman of A Tonk’s Tail, and so many others. Kate Benjamin of Hauspanther and Joanne McGonagle of The Tiniest Tiger Conservation Cub Club, couldn’t attend this year, and they were deeply missed.Continue Reading

Sunday Purrs: Happy Mother’s Day

Mother's Day 2013

Happy Mother’s Day
from
Allegra, Ruby and Ingrid

Mother’s Day is a bit of a bittersweet holiday for me. My mother passed away in 1994, but even after all these years, I still feel a pang when I see Mother’s Day cards appear in stores. My mom and I had a complicated relationship, but I always knew that she loved me.

I owe many things to my mom, but the two most important ones are my love of cats, and my love of books.

Even though we never had cats when I was growing up, my mom was a cat lover. The apartment building we lived in did not allow pets, but luckily, whenever we went on vacation, somehow, every bed-and-breakfasts or rented vacation condo we stayed at would always have a resident cat or two, or there would be a number of stray cats hanging around the property. My mom and I both loved spending time with those cats.Continue Reading

Join me for a New York City Christmas

New York City Christmas

There’s nothing better than New York City at Christmas time. I love New York at any time of the year, but during the holidays, the city takes on a magic that you just can’t find anywhere else in the world. And this year, I get to be a part of the magic that is New York at Christmas time: I’ll be the guest of digital artist Deborah Julian at her booth at the Columbus Circle Holiday Market on December 19 from 1 to 8pm.

Reviewers love Purrs of Wisdom

Purrs_of_Wisdom_Ingrid_King

I’m so thrilled with some of the early reviews that are coming in for Purrs of Wisdom, I just have to share some of my favorite excerpts with you!

From Anna David, author of Animal Attraction:

“A perfect (restrained myself from writing purrfect) little gem of a book that explains life lessons the author learned through her cats, Purrs of Wisdom offers a slew of tips from a clear cat (and life) lover. Recommend it for cat people and non cat people alike!”

From Caren Gittleman at Cat Chat:

“Purrs of Wisdom will make you think, it will warm your soul,  it will wrap itself around your mind and your heart  like a soft-as-down kitty snuggling at your side.”

From Liz Eastwood at Natural Cat Care Blog:

Purrs of Wisdom makes a sweet gift for cat lovers who are setting the intention of a less cluttered and more wholesome life in the New Year. Consider wrapping it up with some herbal tea or catnip and giving someone (such as yourself) the gift of daily contemplations on intentional living, feline style.”

From Decca Price at Decca’s Cats:

“The golden thread running throughout the book is essential catness:Continue Reading

Remembering Buckley

Buckley relaxing

It has been four years since Buckley’s passing. She died on November 28, 2008, which was the Friday after Thanksgiving that year. Rather than observing her anniversary on the actual date, I will always mark this event on Thanksgiving weekend. Even though I still miss her every day, after four years, the sadness is tempered by appreciation and gratitude for the amazing changes she has brought to my life, and, through her book, to the lives of so many others.

Without her, I might not have become a writer. Without her, The Conscious Cat might not exist. Even though Amber inspired this site, its original purpose, in addition to sharing my passion for and knowledge about cat health, was to build a following prior to publishing Buckley’s Story. Most importantly, without her, my heart might not have been opened to the many wonderful lessons she taught me during her brief time with me.

Those of you who have read Buckley’s Story already know Continue Reading

Happy Thanksgiving 2012

Happy Thanksgiving
from
Allegra, Ruby and Ingrid

I try to be thankful year round, but I do spend a little extra time on Thanksgiving to really reflect on what I’m thankful for. Of course, Allegra and Ruby top the list – and I shared the rest of my Thanksgiving ABC on Sunday.

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

We’re celebrating Thanksgiving on The Conscious Cat Facebook page, too: post photos of your Thanksgiving kitties, and tell us why you’re thankful for them.
