Will Ruby Be a Cat Agility Champion?

cat_agility

If you’ve ever been to a cat show, you’ve probably seen those cat agility circuits: a miniature obstacle course of hurdles and tunnels. Cats are enticed through the parcours by a human waving a sparkly wand or feather, and the cat’s time through the circuit is timed. Some cats complete the circuit in a few seconds, others may lay down in the middle of the course and decide that they’re done.Continue Reading

Ruby’s Letter to Santa

Ruby letter to Santa

Allegra and Ruby both wrote their letters to Santa last week. Allegra has asked that hers be kept between her and Santa, but Ruby gave me permission to share hers.

Dear Santa,

it’s Ruby! I’ve been a very good girl this year. I haven’t broken anything in a long time. I only rarely aggravate my sister. I make sure to keep an eye on the birds on our deck. I keep Mom company when she works. I always clean my plate. And I’m just so darn cute (Mom says so all the time!).Continue Reading

Allegra and Ruby Discuss Sleeping Arrangements

sleeping_arrangements_with_cats

To me, sleeping with my cats is one of the joys of sharing my life with them. Every cat I’ve ever had has slept on the bed with me. In fact, the few nights one of them didn’t, it was usually because something was wrong.

I’m always amazed at how much room two small cats can take up in a queen size bed. Some nights, I feel like a contortionist, trying to get comfortable again without waking Allegra and Ruby. Middle of the night gymnastics are not conducive to getting a good night’s sleep. But what’s a little lost sleep, compared to spending the night with a my two girls snuggled up in bed with me?

Allegra and Ruby have their own thoughts about our sleeping arrangements, and they have been bugging me to share them with you.Continue Reading

Ruby’s Reflections: Why I Don’t Like Saturday Mornings

Ruby's_Reflections

Hi, everyone! It’s Ruby! I finally get to write something again! Life has been good. Keeping Allegra in line and making sure Mom doesn’t work too much are full time jobs, but I also have to watch the birds and squirrels on our deck, and eat, and play and sleep – a kitty’s work is never done!

The only thing that I don’t like about my life is Saturday mornings. Why, you ask? Well, that’s when “The Monster” comes out at our house. The Monster is loud, and things disappear in its wake, and I want it to go away and never come back, but every Saturday morning, it comes upstairs from its’ corner in the basement. Mom says she needs to use it to make our house nice and clean. Whatever!Continue Reading

Allegra, Ruby and the iPad

cat_with_iPad

I had been considering getting an iPad for quite some time, and a couple of weeks ago, I finally took the plunge. The iPad is my first Apple device, and I like almost everything about it. I use it for various aspects of my business, and it has made my life easier – and isn’t that what technology is ultimately all about? And yes, I admit it: it’s also just plain fun.

What I didn’t expect is that Allegra and Ruby would also enjoy it. But why don’t I let them tell you about it.

Ruby: What is that flat thing that Mom keeps staring at, Allegra?

Allegra: I don’t know, Ruby. Looks likeContinue Reading

Ruby’s Reflections: Ruby and The Lamp Shade

cat_with_lamp_shade

Hi everyone, it’s Ruby! It’s been a while since I got to write something for you!

Mom says I have a propensity to get myself in trouble. It’s not entirely clear to me what that means, but I’m pretty sure it means I like to have fun. And that’s true!

The other day, Mom opened the door to the “forbidden room,” (Ingrid’s note: I usually keep the door to our guest bedroom closed – no real reason, just habit), and I dashed inside before she could close the door again. Since I rarely get to go in that room, I love to explore! Mom said I could stay in the room for a little while, so I got busy! After a while, Allegra joined me and we both had a great time checking everything out.

All of a sudden, Continue Reading

A Very Special Visitor for Allegra and Ruby

visit_from_robin

Allegra and Ruby got a surprise visit from our dear friend Robin Olson of Covered in Cat Hair last week. Robin was in town for BlogPaws. She’d been wanting to meet the girls two years ago when BlogPaws was held at Tysons Corner as well, and this year, we finally managed to find the time to make it happen.

Allegra, who loves visitors, took to Robin right away. She greeted her at the door, and led the way upstairs into our living room. Ruby, who tends to be a little more cautious with people she doesn’t know, didn’t take long to warm up to Robin, either. But why don’t I let the girls tell you about Robin’s visit in their own words.

Allegra: I love visitors, and I could tell right away that this lady was a cat person.

Ruby: New person in the house!Continue Reading
