Ruby’s Reflections: Why I Don’t Like Saturday Mornings

Ruby's_Reflections

Hi, everyone! It’s Ruby! I finally get to write something again! Life has been good. Keeping Allegra in line and making sure Mom doesn’t work too much are full time jobs, but I also have to watch the birds and squirrels on our deck, and eat, and play and sleep – a kitty’s work is never done!

The only thing that I don’t like about my life is Saturday mornings. Why, you ask? Well, that’s when “The Monster” comes out at our house. The Monster is loud, and things disappear in its wake, and I want it to go away and never come back, but every Saturday morning, it comes upstairs from its’ corner in the basement. Mom says she needs to use it to make our house nice and clean. Whatever!Continue Reading

Allegra, Ruby and the iPad

cat_with_iPad

I had been considering getting an iPad for quite some time, and a couple of weeks ago, I finally took the plunge. The iPad is my first Apple device, and I like almost everything about it. I use it for various aspects of my business, and it has made my life easier – and isn’t that what technology is ultimately all about? And yes, I admit it: it’s also just plain fun.

What I didn’t expect is that Allegra and Ruby would also enjoy it. But why don’t I let them tell you about it.

Ruby: What is that flat thing that Mom keeps staring at, Allegra?

Allegra: I don’t know, Ruby. Looks likeContinue Reading

Ruby’s Reflections: Ruby and The Lamp Shade

Hi everyone, it’s Ruby! It’s been a while since I got to write something for you!

Mom says I have a propensity to get myself in trouble. It’s not entirely clear to me what that means, but I’m pretty sure it means I like to have fun. And that’s true!

The other day, Mom opened the door to the “forbidden room,” (Ingrid’s note: I usually keep the door to our guest bedroom closed – no real reason, just habit), and I dashed inside before she could close the door again. Since I rarely get to go in that room, I love to explore! Mom said I could stay in the room for a little while, so I got busy! After a while, Allegra joined me and we both had a great time checking everything out.

All of a sudden, Continue Reading

A Very Special Visitor for Allegra and Ruby

visit_from_robin

Allegra and Ruby got a surprise visit from our dear friend Robin Olson of Covered in Cat Hair last week. Robin was in town for BlogPaws. She’d been wanting to meet the girls two years ago when BlogPaws was held at Tysons Corner as well, and this year, we finally managed to find the time to make it happen.

Allegra, who loves visitors, took to Robin right away. She greeted her at the door, and led the way upstairs into our living room. Ruby, who tends to be a little more cautious with people she doesn’t know, didn’t take long to warm up to Robin, either. But why don’t I let the girls tell you about Robin’s visit in their own words.

Allegra: I love visitors, and I could tell right away that this lady was a cat person.

Ruby: New person in the house!Continue Reading

Ruby’s Reflections: If I Had Thumbs…

tortoiseshell_cat_on_window_perch

Hi everyone, it’s Ruby! The other day, Mom left the computer on with YouTube up on the screen, so Allegra and I watched a bunch of silly cat videos that made us laugh. But when we watched the famous British Cravendale Milk commercial titled “If Cats Had Thumbs” (see below) it really got me thinking! The things I could do….

If I had thumbs, I would never have to wait for Mom to feed us – I could figure out how to open the refrigerator, get our raw food out, take the lid off the container, and Allegra and I would be set. (Yes, I would share with my big sister!). No waiting for Mom to mix everything up for us. No waiting for measly little portions. I would control how much we eat!

If I had thumbs, I could get the treat bag out of the cabinet whenever I wanted! That would be so cool!Continue Reading

Ruby’s Reflections: Feline Office Assistant Job Description

feline_office_assistant_office_cat

Hi everyone, it’s Ruby! I have a big job: I’m Mom’s office assistant. Allegra helps, too, but I’m the one who sits in Mom’s lap most of the time while she’s working, so even though Allegra and I came up with this job description for office cats together, I get to present it to you.

Feline Office Assistant Job Purpose: Assist human in maintaining hindering office operations by receiving and distributing communications laying on important papers; maintaining batting around supplies and sitting on equipment, paying particular attention to this thing called “mouse;” picking-up and delivering items (which means batting them to the furthest corner of the office); serving customers, training the human to serve.

Ruby’s Reflections: Undercover Kitty

cat_on_bed

Hi everyone, it’s Ruby! Mom said I should tell you about where I sleep at night, because she thinks it’s just “so darn cute!” I don’t really know why she thinks it’s so cute. I don’t do it to be cute, I do it to stay warm!

When we go to bed at night, Allegra curls up on one side of Mom, and I curl up on her other side. Usually, Mom has her arms around me, and Allegra is wedged against her back. It’s nice and cozy, and a good way to start the night. But as the night goes on, I get a little chilly, and for the past few nights, I decided that Mom must be on to something, because she sleeps under a nice, warm comforter.

So I decided to check things out. I very quietly crawled under the comforter, being careful not to wake Mom. Continue Reading
