Sunday Purrs: Cats Help Us Connect to Our Spiritual Side

cats-spiritual-connection

Connecting with our spiritual core is an important part of conscious living. We all have different ways of doing this, and there isn’t any one single method that is more valuable than another. For some, it may be through structured religious observations, often shared in the community of a church or other spiritual gathering. For others, this connection may happen during meditation. Others still may connect with spirit in nature.

For me, animals, and of course, especially cats, have always been an easy way to help me find that spiritual connection.Continue Reading

Allegra and the Thanksgiving Turkey

tortoiseshell-cat
Did someone say “turkey?”

I often wonder how Allegra and Ruby feel about the fact that I’m mostly vegetarian. I suspect that they would prefer me to be a carnivore like them. While I do eat some seafood, I usually eat that only when I eat out. As a result, the most exciting people food treats the girls get are the occasional pieces of cheese. Ruby doesn’t care all that much for people food (except tuna!), she prefers cat treats. Allegra likes to try different things, but I’d never seen her as excited about people food as she was when I came home from Thanksgiving dinner last Thursday. Why don’t I let her tell you in her own words?Continue Reading

Buckley and Thanksgiving Weekend: Forever Linked

buckley's-story

It’s hard to believe that it’s been eight years since Buckley passed away. Thanksgiving will always be associated with Buckley for me, and not just because Thanksgiving Day 2008 was the last full day I spent with her. It’s also because I am so thankful for the many gifts this gimpy little cat who captured my heart from the moment I first saw her brought into my life. Continue Reading

Happy Thanksgiving from
Allegra, Ruby and Ingrid

I keep a gratitude journal all year long, but I do spend a little extra time on Thanksgiving reflecting on everything I’m thankful for. There’s also my Thanksgiving ABC’s tradition, which I shared on Sunday. Of course, Allegra and Ruby top the list of who I’m grateful for every year – followed by you, our Conscious Cat readers!Continue Reading

Reach for the moon. Even if you fall short, you’ll land among stars.

Last Saturday, a dear friend of mine died after a brief illness. This is the first time a friend close to me in age has passed away, and it’s hitting me hard.

Ronnie was my pet sitter for more than 20 years, until she realized her dream of living in Hawaii four years ago. She took care of all of my cats,Continue Reading

Sunday Purrs: Autumn Reflections

tortoiseshell-cat-fall-colors

I have a bit of a love hate relationship with fall: I enjoy the beautiful colors of autumn all around me, but I also can’t help but think about what comes afterwards. I’m a summer girl, as are Allegra and Ruby: we thrive on warm weather and sun light. Then again, my two beautiful girls remind me of everything that is beautiful about the season: nothing brings out the gorgeous colors in torties’ coats better than the light of autumn.Continue Reading
