The second Cat Camp NYC was a high energy, fun filled two day event celebrating cats. From educational lectures to panel discussions covering topics ranging from how to start a TNR (Trap Neuter Release) program, how to use social media to help cats, and how to address feline behavior problems, to the inspirational keynote address by Jackson Galaxy, the event drew thousands of enthusiastic cat lovers. In addition to the educational offerings, there were vendors offering cat-themed products.

I hosted an hour long “Ask the Cat Expert Q&A” session on Saturday, and answered questions about nutrition, holistic remedies, behavior and more. Thank you to all who attended my session, and for the great questions you asked.

Our resident cat behaviorist Mikel Delgado hosted a session titled “Peaceable Kingdom: How to Increase the Success of Multi-Cat Households,” and New York based behaviorist Beth Adelman talked about litter box issues. Both seminars were packed with fantastic and actionable information.

I had a wonderful time visiting with all the vendors and exhibitors. I loved the mix of educational offerings and just plain fun cat products; there was truly something for everyone.

Personal highlights for me included spending time with our resident cat doc, Dr. Lynn Bahr at the Dezi & Roo booth. Their innovative cat toys were a huge hit among Cat Camp visitors. Equally popular were the unique t-shirts by Cat-Hi, who shared their booth with Jodi Ziskin of Treatibles, who educated visitors on the benefits of cannabis products for cats.

With Dr. Lynn Bahr, Beth Adelman, and Sterling Davis

I also enjoyed meeting Sterling Davis, the Trap King, and learning more about his mission to bust a whole slew of stereotypes around helping cats, and to bridge the gap in communication between black communities and animal rescues and local shelters. Sterling is one of the most genuine people I’ve ever met, and I was impressed with his passion for cats and for creating change. You’ll be hearing more about this amazing man here on The Conscious Cat soon.

The weekend concluded with Jackson Galaxy’s keynote titled “The Power of You.” He stressed that we can all do something to save more cats, and he inspired attendees to take the positive energy of the event out into the world to improve the lives of all cats. I can’t think of a better message to close out a fantastic weekend.

I loved the view from my hotel room

I already can’t wait for next year’s Cat Camp – the even’ts combination of education, advocacy and fun is simply purrfect.

  5. We enjoyed ourselves much more this year. Nice to see how much larger it became over one year. A lot more to do, see, talk about, pet and purchase!
