T. J. Banks is one of my favorite cat writers. I loved every one of her previous seven books, and eagerly awaited her latest, Moonlight & Grace.

When Grace inherits her beloved godmother’s home, she is expecting to relive memories, but she’s not prepared for one memory that the house and the surrounding gardens are holding on to: the alleged suicide of a young woman. A series of otherworldly events make Grace question whether it was a good idea to move into this house. As she gets drawn deeper into the mystery surrounding the young woman’s death, Grace receives help from two unexpected kindred spirits: a lilac Abyssinian cat named Moonlight, and a mysterious elderly neighbor.

I’m not usually a fan of paranormal fiction and stay away from anything featuring ghosts and witchcraft, but this book had me spellbound, for lack of a better word, from the very start.

Banks’ writing is luminous and lyrical. Her human and feline protagonists are immensely likeable, as are the rest of the human and feline cast, and yes, there are plenty of other cats in this story.

This accomplished writer not only knows how to weave a storyline that keeps you reading, she also clearly knows and understands cats, and her love for her feline characters shines through in her sensitive and beautiful prose.

I had a hard time putting this book down and was sad when it ended, because I had fallen in love with both Moonlight and Grace. If you love cats and feline fiction, even if you don’t usually read paranormal fiction, I encourage you to give this book a try. You will not be disappointed.

Moonlight & Grace is available from Amazon.
