I used to be able to tolerate hot weather a lot better when I was younger. I don’t particularly enjoy being in frigid air conditioned rooms, so I keep my AC set to 78 degrees during the day, then turn it down to 74 at night. But there’s always that period of time when the house gets near 78, just before the AC kicks in, when it feels uncomfortably warm to me. Since I really don’t want to turn the AC down any lower, it was time for a fan.

I don’t have ceiling fans, so I started to look at tower fans. My main requirement was that a fan needed to be quiet, followed closely by being aestethically pleasing. I landed on the Honeywell Quiet Set Whole Room Tower Fan, which consistently rated high when it came to noise level.

Putting the Honeywell Quiet Set Fan to the test

I placed the fan between my dining room and living room, hoping that with the osciallting setting, it would cool both rooms. And boy, does it perform! I can’t believe the different in how the rooms feel, even on the second lowest setting. And it is wonderfully quiet.

It’s important to understand that a fan will not cool your home and will not lower the ambient temperature. Only air conditioning can do that. What a fan will do is move the air around so it will feel cooler.

At eight pounds, the fan is lightweight, and the carrying handle makes it easy to move it around. The base is sturdy, but due to its light weight, I don’t think it would be tip proof if a cat decides to take a run at it. The design is nice enough to not bother me. It’s not as sleek as some of the newer fans, and you need the provided remote to control it rather than an app, but quite frankly, I didn’t want to have to use my phone to control a fan. I don’t even use the remote.

My biggest concern, as with anything new I bring into my home, was that the fan would spook Allegra. I have a ceiling fan in my bedroom that I never use, because she refuses to come into the room when it’s on. She doesn’t mind this fan at all.

The first day I had it up, this is where I found her napping later in the evening:

  1. This looks like a nice fan. I like that you say it’s quiet. When I use a fan in the living room, I like for it to be quiet. But, in the bedroom, I like the humming sound because it blocks out noises and I sleep better. I do need to replace some of the fans in my house. They are old.
