I recently had a chance to e-chat with Michelle Hoffman, the founder and president of Milo’s Sanctuary, a non-profit 501(c)(3) founded on the belief that all cats deserve a second chance at life, especially those that have physical disabilities, are seniors, have a terminal illness, or have been abused and need someone to care for, love, and understand them. I was intrigued when Michelle told me that they feed raw at the sanctuary, and wanted to learn more.Continue Reading

A Tribute to Bob Dole

Bob Dole longhaired orange cat

On Saturday night, Bob Dole, my dear friend Robin Olson’s beloved cat, died peacefully after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by those he loved.

Bob was Robin’s mother’s cat. When she died unexpectedly five years ago, Robin took Bob in, initially intending to find a good home for him, because she already had multiple cats of her own. Bob had not received regular veterinary care while he lived with her mother (a regular topic of dissension between Robin and her mother). When Robin took Bob to her vet, he was diagnosed as FIV positive and diabetic. Continue Reading

At their core, cats are still wild animals, and while we’ve invited them into our homes to share our lives, we can’t expect them to completely give up all their instincts. We have to look at our living space from the cat’s point of view and provide an environment that keeps them safe and stimulated at the same time. This includes creating a safe space your cat can retreat to when she wants quiet time. This is especially important during potentially stressful situations such as home remodeling, inclement weather or any other disruptions to your cat’s routine.Continue Reading

Why Cats Can’t Be Vegan

cat-vegan-diet

People adopt a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle for any number of reasons, some of them health related, others as a conscious choice to help the planet, or because of a genuine concern about animal rights. This lifestyle choice may present an ethical dilemma for cat parents who believe that their cats’ diet should reflect their human beliefs about the treatment of animals and an environmentally sustainable lifestyle. However, putting cats on a vegan diet is an irresponsible and potentially dangerous choice that puts their health at risk.Continue Reading

Remembering Ruby’s Birthday and Celebrating Purrs of Wisdom’s First Anniversary With a Giveaway

Ruby-birthday-Purrs-anniversary-giveaway

Today would have been Ruby’s 13th birthday, and as is often the case with these special days, I miss my precious girl even more today than I usually do. I don’t think I’ll ever come to terms with the fact that she died so young. She had so much life left to live, so many more years of irritating her big sister, and so many more tuna cakes to enjoy.Continue Reading

I’ve been feeding Darwin’s for the past six years, and the turkey formula is Allegra’s absolute favorite. I’ve also enjoyed working with Darwin’s as a sponsor for this site for many years. Everyone is just so nice, but how could they not be, when they get to work for a company that is all about providing nutrition for lifelong health and happiness!Continue Reading
