Whether your kids are human or furry,
enjoy your special day!

Father’s Day can be bittersweet for those of us whose fathers are no longer with us. My dad passed away 19 years ago, but I still get a little sad each year when Father’s Day comes around.

The photo above is one of my favorite photos of my dad. Can’t you just feel the love? I think it’s safe to say that nobody else in my life ever has or ever will love me as much as he did.

One specific memory of my dad always comes back to me right around Father’s Day. It still makes me cry each time I remember it. When I was four years old, we vacationed at a lake with a rocky beach. My dad would get up every morning and remove all the rocks from a small section of the beach so his little girl would have a sandy beach to play on. My dad literally  moved the earth for me to make me happy.

  1. I am so sorry that your Dad passed away when you were so young. You were so lucky to have a Dad that loved you so much and was around for you. Unfortunately my Dad was not the best Dad in the world. As a young child I used to run away from home all of the time. I was the youngest and not expected, my siblings were much older. My Dad would scream and yell, hit me with his belt, he had a very violent temper. He did love dogs as I do though. I had a mini Schnauzer in college but had to go away for 4 mos to do an internship. My puppy was only abt 6 mos old. My parents finally agreed to keep her while I was gone. When I came home, the first thing my Dad said to me, you can’t have your dog back. Rose was spoiled rotten, to the core. My Dad loved that little gal, introduced to his friends and employees as his first grandchild. The first person he would speak to when he came home was my dog, it was as if no one else in the world mattered. He would watch the ballgames on Sat and Sun, with Rose in his lap. Rose loved my dog so much, she tore up the chairs they used to sit in when he passed away. He died young, was about 65 yrs old. I had a pony for 3 yrs and rode horses for over 20 yrs. He never saw my pony, and only saw me ride once, when he happened to be at the showgrounds when I was in the ring, he was on a business deal. I have always envied people that had great and loving parents. My parents fought like “cats and dogs”, which is probably the reason, only 3 of the 4 kids got married and that was not a good marriage either.

  2. My Dad died two years ago on my June 10th, 2021, birthday. Every year it is bittersweet and we celebrate his death and my birthday, by saying a toast to my late Dad. He was 96 when he died. We miss him every day. We celebrate what he did for Canada, as he served in WW11 as a Radar Operator. Dad was stationed in Halifax, Nova Scotia during the war. He went out to sea in one of two very small Corvettes – mine sweepers. Their ship watched a sister ship blow up when they encountered a land mine under the Atlantic Ocean. My late Dad never talked about his War Experiences, as I understand they were very painful memories for him. He was a great Dad when he was alive taking our family on trips to The Atlantic Provinces, Quebec City, Montreal, Williamsburg, USA, Myrtle Beach, USA and Naples, Florida, USA. He worked very hard in the Printing Industry in Toronto, ON to provide for his loving family. Thank you Dad for EVERYTHING you did for our family. YOU ARE LOVED! KLV

    • I am so sorry for the loss of your father. He sounded like a wonderful person. Thank you for sharing and for the service he performed for his country. You were lucky to have him in your life for so long.

  3. Beautiful sentiments, Ingrid. Thanks very much! When I earned my Ph.D, I was told that the encouragement and support of a father/father figure was the strongest contributing factor to a woman earning a doctorate, regardless of all other variables.

  4. I would love too wish all the fathers of furbabies and human kids a very Happy Father’s day. My Father passed away when I was 10 yrs old and my father was 46 or 47 I don’t remember him too much. But all you guys have a great day
