Then years ago, on the Friday after Thanksgiving, I had to let my beloved Buckley go. Ever since then, Thanksgiving has always been associated with Buckley for me. And it’s not just because Thanksgiving Day 2008 was the last full day I spent with her. It’s also because when I count my blessings, the many gifts this gimpy little cat who captured my heart from the moment I first saw her brought into my life are always at the top of the list.Continue Reading
Happy Thanksgiving from
Allegra, Ruby and Ingrid
I keep a gratitude journal all year long, but I do spend a little extra time on Thanksgiving reflecting on everything I’m thankful for. There’s also my Thanksgiving ABC’s tradition, which I shared on Sunday. Of course, Allegra and Ruby top the list of who I’m grateful for every year – followed by you, our Conscious Cat readers!
What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?
Thursday is Thanksgiving in the United States. And while spending time with family and friends is the best part of this holiday, I think it’s also important to reflect on the true meaning of the holiday: a time to count one’s blessings. I’ve admired Bernadette Kazmarski’s art for many years. I first introduced you to this supremely talented artist eight years ago, and Bernadette and I have been friends ever since. She designed the covers for two of my books (Purrs of Wisdom and Adventures in Veterinary Medicine) and has been designing my annual Christmas cards for many years. Several years ago, I commissioned a painting of a friend’s cat. Last year, I commissioned a landscape painting of the beautiful view from a friend’s weekend retreat.Continue Reading
As you partake in today’s festivities, please remember that this may not be your cat’s favorite holiday. Noisy celebrations can be scary for many cats. By planning ahead, you can do a number of things to help your cats cope.
How to Help Your Cat Cope With Fireworks
It’s always sad when a friend’s cat dies. My heart hurts for what I know they’re about to go through as they mourn their loss. We’ve all been there, and even though everyone grieves in their own unique way, we all know how hard it is. And when the cat is one of those “soul cats,” the feline version of a soul mate, the pain of loss can be overwhelming. Earlier this week, my dear friend Kate Benjamin, the founder of Hauspanther, lost her soul cat Ando.Continue Reading
