Hi everyone, it’s Allegra and Ruby! Guess what! Today is Mom’s birthday. Even though Mom had one of her very long and informative posts about some very important topic scheduled for today, we decided that her birthday is more important. So we rescheduled her important post for next week, and instead, we’re surprising her for her birthday!Continue Reading

Happy Mother’s Day 2018
My mom passed away 24 years ago, and Mother’s Day still is a bit of a bittersweet day. After all these years, the pain of missing her has faded. I feel her presence in my heart every single day, but I do miss her more today than on other days. Continue Reading
Cat Camp NYC: Making the World Better for Cats
The second Cat Camp NYC was a high energy, fun filled two day event celebrating cats. From educational lectures to panel discussions covering topics ranging from how to start a TNR (Trap Neuter Release) program, how to use social media to help cats, and how to address feline behavior problems, to the inspirational keynote address by Jackson Galaxy, the event drew thousands of enthusiastic cat lovers. Sunday Purrs: New Year’s Eve Edition
My two little party animals are ready to ring in the New Year (and don’t worry, that’s catnip bubbly in those glasses.)
I like to spend part of New Year’s Eve reflecting on the year that’s about to end. It’s a great day to consciously give thanks for all the blessings the year has brought, and to acknowledge the things that may not have gone quite the way you would have wanted. Forgive yourself for any mistakes you may have made, and forgive others if you feel they’ve somehow done you wrong. Release the negatives gently, and with compassion for yourself and others.Continue Reading
A Tribute to Squirty
It’s always sad when a friend’s cat dies. My heart hurts for what I know they’re about to go through as they mourn their loss. We’ve all been there, and even though everyone grieves in their own unique way, we all know how hard it is. And when the cat is one I’ve come to know and love, I feel the loss, too. I always had a soft spot in my heart for Squirty, my “feline nephew.” He lived with my friends in New York City for 18 years – New Year’s Eve would have been his birthday. He passed suddenly and peacefully on Christmas Eve morning.Continue Reading

Happy Thanksgiving 2017
Happy Thanksgiving from
Allegra, Ruby and Ingrid
I keep a gratitude journal all year long, but I do spend a little extra time on Thanksgiving reflecting on everything I’m thankful for. There’s also my Thanksgiving ABC’s tradition, which I shared on Sunday. Of course, Allegra and Ruby top the list of who I’m grateful for every year – followed by you, our Conscious Cat readers!
What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving ABC’s 2017
Thursday is Thanksgiving in the United States. As we’re looking forward to spending time with family and friends, I think it’s important not to lose sight of the true meaning of the holiday: a time to count one’s blessings. I keep a gratitude journal: each night before I go to bed, I list at least three things I was grateful for that day. Gratitude is a powerful force. It shifts your mood and your thoughts from a place of lack to a place of abundance. Gratitude is all about being in the present moment, and appreciating what’s around you.Continue Reading
