We’re all about learning from our cats here at Purrs of Wisdom, so I was intrigued when I received a review copy of The Cat Who Taught Zen.

This is an adult fable about an old cat’s journey to an ancient tree that is said to offer peace and understanding to those who sit within its branches. Along the way, he encounters lots of friends: a hare, a magpie, a wolf cub, a monkey, a tortoise, a tiger and an energetic kitten.

During each encounter, the cat shares wisdom with his new friends, but ultimately, it’s what the cat learns that will cause you to reflect and inspire you. The central message of the book – good things often come out of seemingly bad things – is a message the author learned after a time of despair in his own life that led him to Buddhism.

The combination of the beautiful design, the delightful illustrations, and the lovely message make this book a true treasure. I can see myself leaving through this book again and again, taking time to reflect on each page.

This book makes a wonderful gift for the spiritual seekers and cat lovers on your list – and perhaps, a purrfect gift for yourself.

  1. Sounds so interesting, I’m thinking of keeping it for myself and give a different gift to a 12 year, unless someone can advise me otherwise?
