Christmas Eve Reflections

christmas-tree-cat

Christmas Eve has always been a day of reflection for me. I consider myself a deeply spiritual person, but I don’t feel affiliated with any particular brand of religion. I grew up Catholic, but I’ve chosen to take what I call a “cafeteria approach” to spirituality, picking and choosing what resonates, and discarding the rest. I celebrate Christmas, because for me, the holiday is ultimately about love, generosity, and giving. But even more than that, for me, it’s a time to slow down.Continue Reading

Your Cat Photos Needed for Purrs of Wisdom: Enlightenment, Feline Style

purrs-of-wisdom-photos

Yes, I need more of your cat photos! First of all, thank you to all of you who have submitted photos of your torties for Tortitude: The Little Book of Cats With a Big Attitude. I received close to a thousand photos, and I loved “meeting” all of your torties. It was really hard to reduce the number of photos to only about 75 – if I could, I would use all of them! My publisher will have final say as to which of the photos will be used in the book, which will publish in February of 2016.

Now it’s time for a second round of photo submissions!Continue Reading

Whether your kids are human or furry, enjoy your special day!

Father’s Day can be a bittersweet day for those of us whose fathers are no longer with us. Depending on how fresh your loss is, even seeing Father’s Day card pop up in stores, and getting countless emails with Father’s Day gift suggestions, may bring sadness and even tears.

Last year, I shared some reflections on what it’s like for fatherless children, no matter what our age, to commemorate our fathers on Father’s Day.Continue Reading

BlogPaws 2015: Cat Ladies Descend on Music City

BlogPaws-2015

I spent last weekend with 500 of my fellow pet bloggers at our annual gathering in Nashville, TN. This was my fourth BlogPaws conference, and it just keeps on getting bigger and better each year. And while the conference is still pretty “dog-heavy,” the contingent of cat ladies (and a few gents) is growing each year, thanks, in no small part, to the amazing Kate Benjamin of Hauspanther, who once again created the ultimate cat lover’s experience in the Cat Lounge.Continue Reading
